(j-8-c) YOUTH CENTER (Continued from Page 2) found the following activities: basketball (coaching and actual play), ping pong, horseshoes, skating on outdoor cement area, volleyball, badminton, darts, clock-ett, Chinese checkers, polly anna, softball, reading table with assortment of latest magazines, and dominoes. A feature of the youth center is not only the fact that it provides fun and recreation for the young sters from Black Mountain, but also has given opportunity for us to become better acquainted with the boys and girls from Montreat. We have organized teams in each age group in basketball, have midget softball teams and hope to add even more activities as the season progresses. Horseshoe has become a favor ite among the midgets. Annie Marie Mulloy at present has scored the most ringers among the Midgets. There was lots of excitement a mong the Midget boys on Tuesday. They had company in the presence of the Montreat Midgets’ softball team. We made them welcome, but we were glad when we sent them home on the short end of a 13-11 score. A team of boys to play softball and basketball is being formed at the vouth center. This team is to be made up of boys 13 and 14 years of age to compete with Montreat and Camp Ridgecrest grodps of similar age. Teen agers are looking forward to hearing more about the arts and crafts course that is going to be given at the center. Teen agers also look forward to their basketball games on Satur day nights at Blue Ridge and Ridgecrest. Although they have been competing with college stu dents, they have been having fun and making a good showing. Dana Gilliam’s hook and Bobby Ritche's rebound work have aroused favor aide comment. Look for more news from Youth Center next week. P. S. All you kids not coming to Youth Center are missing some thing. If you are a summer visitor, we would like to have you too.
